Camp Day 1 - God's in Control!

Just a day passed in Children's Camp, God have showed us the He is in control, it's all part of His plan and we only need to pray, trust and depand on HIM.

The Camp started out with registration (DUH!!!), before moving on to the first worship service of the camp.

Thank GOD for Uncle Ivan and his team of musicians; consisting of Melvin (pianist), Daniel (bassist), Marcus Tay (guitarist) and Valerie (flutist). Thank God for them finding time to make many trips to and fro, just in time for worship. Let's remember them in prayer.

Thank God for the ice-breaking games, well, the kids sure looks like having a great time laughing and playing, and of course knowing their campmates. (See Zhi Jian's photos.)

The greatest test came shortly after lunch, and it's all about us placing our trust in God's plan - rain.

Prayer after prayer from the games team and helpers, the rain never looked like stopping and The Amazing Race almost looked cancelled. But it's the simple lesson many learnt today - Pray and wait and see.

Praise the Lord! He stopped the thunder and lightnings, and eventually the rain itself. God allowed us to carry on with the plan of having Amazing Race. God is good, all the time!

Thank God that during the Amazing Race, no children got injured or hurt. God have indeed preserved everybody's physical well-being.

Well, the truth is, there's too many to thank God for!!! Words are never enough!

Well, our prayer requests from our side would be, God's will be done in this camp, souls being saved and revival being broken out among the kids! Please also pray for the weather throughout the camp, pray that it will be 'just-nice' for the kids. Do pray for protection too.

For now, I'll let the (some) pictures do all the taking.

Prayer Requests
Please pray for protection in this camp, the devil is like a lion out in the streets, waiting to devour anything in it's way. Pray that the Lord WILL bind the hand of the evil one, and that God's will be done in this camp, and in the lives of many young children. Do pray for safety, and definitely, the children's salvation.

Children's Camp 2008 progress

As of June the ninth, 2008, we are officially 10 days away from the 2008 edition of GLCC Children Ministry's Children Camp.

The camp is from the 18th to the 21st of June, and are led by Luzerne Cheng, assisted by Yufei. The games team are headed by Giolo and Jia Hao, the pair will be assisted by their team members and will promise exciting games for the campers. As for worship, Uncle Ivan is our worship leader. Our preacher for the camp will be Mr. Ian Toh, thank God for giving us this young and faithful godly man to preach God's word to the children. May the words preached change lifes, Amen.

In the form of updates, this website will try to have coverages on the camp at the end of each day - with thanksgiving, urgent prayer requests and of course, some photos.

As the camp is still 10 days away, all workers and helpers are to take note of the dates of meeting before the 18th; June 10, Tuesday; June 15, Sunday; and June 17, Tuesday. For more information with regards to the meeting, please contact Luzerne and Yufei.

Not everyone received the paper, so I thought I would repost it here for everyone's reference purposes and also for convenience sake.

Sunday School (7-14 yrs)

Mission Statement
Our mission is to guide and assist every child to find a personal relationship with God and as a result have his/her life changed for the glory of God.

Vision
1)Provide an exciting place to worship God
2)Provide a warm and loving environment where they find genuine acceptance and opportunities for building friendships
3)Guide children to discover and apply bible truth
4)Promote opportunities to serve God and minister to others
5)Equip and motivate teachers and students to reach people for Christ.

Activities/Programmes
The children have combined worship for half an hour after which they are dividied into:

Curriculum
The Bible is the Sunday School's textbook. Teachers hold a high respect for the Bible, rely on Scripture as the ultimate statement of God's truth and always seek to apply to real life situations faced by students. We have an organised teaching plan using the 'Gospel Light' curriculum for Pr. 1 to Pr. 5. The Senior Class uses the 'Young Teens Aflame' curriculum which is written locally.

Teachers and Care Bears
Teachers are assisted by Care Bears, who perform non-teaching roles and give more focus attention to the individual child. We hold a yearly retreat, regular training and outings for our teachers and care bears. We also pray together before we begin our worship sessions as we know we need to depend on the Holy Spirit to work in the heart of each child.

Annual Children's Camp
An exciting camp full of fun and laughter, games, outings, singing and most importantly of all great Bible preaching by Ptr. Mike Redick is planned for the children every year. There, the children make life changing decisions for the Lord and strengthen their friendship bonds.

Other Activities
The children are given many opportunities to serve God through singing, acting, playing musical instruments, taking photos, writing articles and leadership roles. We value each child and count it as a privilege to be part of God's miracle life-changing plan for the children.

When and Where?
Ages 7 yrs to 14 yrs Sunday School meet every Sunday at 11.00am at 190 Dunearn Road, AVA Room(next to foyer of Khoo's Auditorium) for combine worship before we disperse to various classes.

I thank God so much for the Children Musical. Thank God for everyone who willingly want to serve in this area. Each one of you is special and close to my heart. I thank God for the chance to work with so many different people, some I have worked before, some for the first time.

I thank God for Elerina. Thank God for allowing me to know you better. I remember how God soften your heart and how you're willing to take part in the dance and be part of this team. You are important and I need you in this musical. Continue to shine for Jesus in everything you do!

Thank God for Evan. You're young, yet you're serving, and I thank God for that. You show me that age is not a barrier to serving God. You show me that God can use the 'weak and foolish'
to overcome the wise and mighty things of this world. Keep having that child-like faith and fervent for the Lord!

Thank God for Zephy. It's so blessed to see how you have been such an awesome blessing in this musical. I'm so blessed by your dancing and indeed you are good. The innocence and look on your face really brings a smile to my face. Keep living for God!

Thank God for Jeriel. Even though you may be abit fearful at first, yet you tried your best and was such a blessing to those around you. May you draw so near to the Lord and try your best in this musical. You are doing great!

Thank God for Elizabelle. It's so wonderful to have a pianist like you who takes the time to practice and give it your best shot. I'm so encouraged the effort you are putting into this musical. God is truly pleased with your effort and I'm so thankful for you!

Thank God for Sihan. How amazing to see how you are growing in the Lord. Throughout this musical, you have been a superb example and testimony! Your patience, your thoughtfulness, your humility, your understanding really taught me so much. Thank God for coming up with the dance steps for the musical.

Thank God for Si Cheng and Cassandra. Thank God for both of you taking the time to write the script. The musical would never have become like this without both of you. Thank God for your creativity and desire to serve the Lord behind the scenes! Thank God for your humility when I change the original script. Thank God for Yvonne. So glad when you wanted to serve in this musical even though you have your O levels at that time. Thank God for Matthew Choo. You're a great dancer. Your outgoing and dare-to-try nature is such a joy. Seeing you dance is so cute and yet so encouraging. You're a mighty blessing. Whatever you do next time, keep shining for the Lord! You will do great and mighty things for Him.

Thank God for Michelle Choo. Even though you may only have joined us for one practice, yet I know you have a heart and desire to want to serve God! By willing to be a 'fool' and dancing in front of close to a thousand people, you made me so thankful. Even as you are overseas, do take care and stay close to the Lord.

Thank God for Beverly. Though you may be unable to make it for any practices yet, but I know that you have a love for children and a love for God. I'm thankful for your ministry and your life. You have been a blessing in little ways! Your smiles are such an encouragement. Really hope to have you as part of this team.

Thank God for Xin Zhe. Thanks for using your gifts and abilities to serve the Lord. It's so precious to have you in the musical team. As you continue to serve God in the area of music, may you always bring joy to the Lord through the beautiful music that you play!

Thank God for Giolo. I'm so glad that you are back in action, serving the Lord in the area of the guitar. I'm impressed by the effort that you put into playing the guitar. I want you to know that you are significant! Keep shining for the Lord and all the best for your guitar playing.

Thank God for Lilis. Thank God for your willingness to just serve in any area that God has lead you. I'm so blessed when you took on the role as the mummy in the musical. How encouraging to be able to serve alongside you once again. I remember the times we served together in the Link.

Wonderful wonderful wonderful!

It amazing to see how we have progress so far and more amazing to see people getting to work and starting to put in their effort. It's really great working with these people.

I thank God for Lynn Shan for completing the script for 'The Mystery Gift'. I'm really encouraged by her willingness to do the script and she's really on task and well ahead of time. Thank God for raising Iris up to act in the skit too. We still need two guys characters.

Thank God for Charmaine who completed the song for the musical. Our very first song, it's looks good. I think Charmaine really did a good job. She also finishing up the concluding part of 'The Mystery Gift' skit. Thank God for seeing her through her exams and allowing her to serve in this ministry.

Thank God for Jiahao who has found the people to serve alongside him and for those who are serving with him. Thank God for Jiahao's humility and being so willing and excited in serving. Also for those who are serving with him, thank God for each one of them.

Thank God for Benjamin who has already found some people and in the midst of planning the schedule and finalising the stuff for Botanics. It's been great seeing him serving in the midst of his busy schedule, exams and stuff.

Thank God once again for Si Cheng and Cassandra who have completed up to scene 6 of the script. It's been awesome seeing their commitment and dedication. I really like the storyline and how they manage to develop the story. I think this musical is going to be mind-blowing.

Thank God for Patricia who have started cracking her mind for the songs to be used in the musical. It sounds exciting what plans lies ahead.

Thank God for Audrey who has agreed to get the advertisement and sign-up forms for the Captain's Ball Competiton by this Sunday (07 October 2007).

Thank God for Matthew who is so excited about playing for the worship. I guess the songs and everything will be great with Matthew playing the guitar.

Thank God for Jiayi who have already came up with our T-shirt design. It looks really great! We may be printing it soon, more details will be released soon.

Even as we serve together, let's always remember that we are a TEAM and we can only do this TOGETHER! We are all in this together and everyone of you is IMPORTANT!

Let's also remember that God should and must be the CENTER of all our plans and programs. He must be the FOCUS and everything.

Here are some quick updates:
1. The Botanics Outing on 2 December 2007 has been changed from a games time to an outdoor worship time. So it will be a change of environment, just allowing the children to worship their God outdoors, in the midst of nature, to let them appreciate and enjoy their God in the beauty of nature.

2. We have secured Pastor Mike for the musical on 9 December, for the activity on 16 December and for 'The Mystery Gift' on 23 December.

3. For the activity on the 16 of December, we may be doing another skit, or maybe a movie time. We are open for suggestions, so do let Marcus know if you have any ideas. Thanks.

4. We have added a new column at the left side of the screen which is 'Latest News'. Do check it out for any updates.

Some prayer needs:
- Audrey and Benjamin have the SATS test on Saturday (06 October 2007).
- Baoyue ends her exams in one week time.

Here is scene 1 of the Children’s Christmas Musical Script. Thank God for Si Cheng and Cassandra who really spend time and effort in writing this script! I'm impressed by the storyline. We will only release the synopsis for scene 1, so to catch the whole story, do come for the musical! See you then.

Any ideas or suggestions, do let either Si Cheng, Cassandra or myself know, so we can continue to improve or better the script.

LET'S DO THIS TOGETHER!

Synopsis – Nearing the end of recess, Danny, Kok Cheong and Meng walks into the classroom to find Tommy all alone by himself studying. They walk over and mock him, taking the chance to extort money at the same time. Before Tommy could hand over the money, bell rings and their teacher and classmates file in, leaving Danny with no chance to continue bullying Tommy. The lights dim on the classroom scene and the narrator comes into focus, giving a brief description of Danny’s background and life.

Some of you may be wondering about why we are replacing the magical world of wonders with something else. I would like to share with all of you what does the Bible say about this issue and the reasons why I decided to do something else instead.

Firstly, we need to understand that everything we do must be based on the foundation of God's Word.

Secondly, we need to have a purpose for whatever we are doing.

Thirdly, we are not in the entertainment business, our main job is to teach biblical truths to the children and not entertain them

We need to understand that there is a spiritual realm as seen in Ephesians 6:12 'For we wrestle not against flesh and blood, but against principalities, against powers, against the rulers of the darkness of this world, against spiritual wickedness in high places.'

Magic is deception and demonic. This is seen in 2 Corinthians 11:14 'And no marvel; for Satan himself is transformed into an angel of light.' Satan can disguised himself as a saintly being, an angel of light, a good person and in the process deceive us.

Magic comes from the word witchcraft, and as the word suggests, it's demonic. Hence, I don't think it's wise to promote such an activity in church for the children.

In Galatians 5:19-21, we read, 'Now the works of the flesh are manifest, which are these; ... witchcraft ... of the which I tell you before, as I have also told you in time past, that they which do such things shall not inherit the kingdom of God. '

In Revelation 21:8, we read, 'But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death.'

God clearly hates and is strongly against magic, witchcraft, sorcery. We don't want to do something because we like it, but rather because God is glorified. So I don't think it's appropriate for us to have something like this.

Next, children ministry is an important ministry. Whatever we teach them will stay with them for the rest of their lives. We don't want them to grow up thinking that magic is all-powerful and that it is cool to play with magic. We want them to know more about their Lord.

Our God is not a phony magician! He does not want to trick or deceive you. He is an all-powerful God! He is a miracle-working God! He parted the red sea, He raise the dead, He heal the sick and blind, He fed thousands - these are just some of the miracles He did.

To sum it all up:
1. We are serving God so everything we do has to be based on God's Word.
2. Magic is demonic and it's not a wise thing to have in church.
3. Our God does not dabble in magic, He creates miracles!

IMPORTANT!

Hey guys,

I want to apologize to each and every single one of you. I made a wrong decision and a big mistake. We will no longer have the magical world of wonders but will replace it with something else. I am sorry for the bad decision I made and I am sorry if I have stumbled anyone. Please forgive me.

Now that we have settled this issue, let's move on and not let this incident hinder us from serving God. We still have other activities to do and plan, so let's focus our energy on those. I'll post the reasons why the magical world of wonders should be removed next time.

Anyway, I'm thankful for each one of you and I just want to say that if ever you feel like there are some areas that needs improving or you don't feel comfortable doing, do let me know. I will listen to your feedback and opinions and hopefully we are able to sit down, look through God's Word and decide on what's best to do.

Let's constantly remind one another that we are serving God and everything we do must please God and be in accordance to His Word.

On Sunday (30 September 2007), we had a time of prayer together. Thank God for those who were able to make it. Thank God for Melody, Chiawen, Daniel, Si Cheng, Gordon, Jia yi, Cassandra who came and prayed together.

We need to remember that we are doing a spiritual work and we need to be constantly on our knees praying and depending on God.

It's amazing that the script for the musical is coming out fine. Thank God for Si Cheng and Cassandra who is really a blessing and serving in this area. They are doing an awesome job! Thank God for raising both of them up in this area. I heard about the outline of the script and I'm really impressed. Let's continue to pray for Keep it up Si Cheng and Cassandra!

On to 'The Mystery Gift' skit, Lynn Shan has came up with some ideas of the script and has even written it out. Looking at what she has done really encourages me. She's really on task and enthusiastic! Let's remember to pray for her as she find the suitable people to act in the skit. Great job Lynn Shan!

Moving next to the backstage for the musical, we thank God for Jiahao who is serving in this area. Thank God for his willingness to serve and for him going forth to find people to help out and to find people to train them. Thank God for those who is in his team and for Uncle Eng Chuan to help in teaching the crew how to operate the lightings and sound, etc. Shine on Jiahao!

Audrey has recruited Jon Muk and Jessie to help her in publicity. She has been really cool, coming up with wacky and interesting ideas. Let's do our best in publicity and advertising to hype up the mood and to inform the children and church members to know about these events and pray and support us. We will most probably be getting the advertisements and sign-up forms for the Captain's Ball by this Sunday. You are doing great, Audrey!

I thank God for raising Baoyue to serve alongside me in this ministry. From henceforth, she will be my assistant and secretary. Basically, she will assist me, take minutes, bounce ideas, discuss stuff, and in my absence, she's boss!

I'm blessed by the enthusiasm of everyone involved in this ministry! Let's continue to be excited for the Lord! Let's glorify HIM in this ministry!

1. Baoyue and Charmaine are having their exams which will finish in two weeks time and one week time respectively.

There is going to be many activities coming up and it's hard to find people for every single area of service. If we were to find people for each area before starting on any of the activities, then it's going to be take a long time before we are able to do anything.

We have to start our preparation soon. We need to start praying soon. I don't need alot of people, I just need a core group of people. If you want to commit and think that this is what you want to do, please let me know as soon as possible.

It's been a while since I last posted anything, but just to keep everyone in tune with what's going to happen. There will be many exciting activities coming up during the November and December holidays, so keep checking this blog for the latest updates and information.

For many of the children in Children Ministry, this year is coming to an end and many of them are going to move on the different classes or schools. Primary one will become primary two, primary six will move on to Secondary one. Hence, we want to make this school holidays a full-blown outreach month with many outreach activities.

For the timetable, the activities that you see on the right column is only tentative, nothing concrete has been finalised. But for now the activities are as listed below.

24 November 2007 - Captain's Ball Competition

School holidays have started! Still slacking at home watching tv and playing computer games? Get a life! Come and join this exciting 5-on-5 Captain's Ball Competition and test your skills against other people of your age and fight to emerge champions! Join us for a day of fun-filled activity prepared just for you.

Areas of service:
Games Team - to plan and execute the captain ball games for the day (plan fixtures, referee, organise, etc)
Administrative Team - to oversee the sign-ups and to let the organisers know the number of people coming
Food team - to buy and get ready the drinks for the day
Shepherds - to keep an eye on the children, ensure the safety of the children
Medic - to be there to ensure that if anyone gets injured, someone is trained to handle the situation
Publicity Team - to promote and advertise the event

2 December - Outing to Botanics

This Sunday is meant for bonding purposes and for the kids to get to know each other and the helpers better. This has two aims, firstly, to unite the ministry and to give the kids a common identity. Secondly, to make the helpers more known to the kids so that they will be more open to our ministry and also for the children who are coming to Uth Ministry, it helps in the moving up process.

We are probably going to met in church at 10.30am then take a bus to botanics to play, relax and chill out. Activities include captain's ball, soccer, picnic, etc. These activities are just a rough outline, it's not confirmed yet. Then, we will probably have lunch together, before returning to church at 12.30pm.

Areas of service:
Games Team - to plan and implement the games for the day
Food Team - to buy and get ready the food and drinks for the day
Shepherds - to keep an eye on the children, ensure the safety of the children
Publicity Team - to promote and advertise the event

9 December - Children Christmas Musical

This will be an outreach activity for the children to invite their friends, classmates, cca mates, cousins, siblings to come to church and watch a musical. The aim is to let children know the importance of evangelising and outreach and to start the habit at a young age.

Areas of service:
1. Script and acting
Script (write the script)
Actors and actresses (act and perform for the musical)

2. Music
Music Director (oversees the whole music production, from composing songs, to choosing the right soundtracks and songs, etc)
Lyrics (write and compose songs)
Musicians (play musical instruments either on that day itself or for the recording of the songs needed for the musical)
Singers

3. Dance
Dance Director (come up with the dance steps, choreograph the dance, etc)
Dancers (people who dance)

4. Backstage, logistics, lightning, sound and visual
Backstage Manager (ensures the smooth running of the musical by ensuring that all the backstage crew and stuff are ready for the musical, which includes lighting, sound, and visual, etc)
Backstage Crew (assist the backstage manager in setting up the whole stage for the musical)
Logistics Head (ensures the transportation of all the logistics needed for the musical)
Logistics Team (assist the logistics leader to transport the logistics)
Lighting Crew (ensure that the lightings are ready and control the lightings during the whole musical)
Sound Crew (ensure that all the audio systems are up and running, conduct mike tests, ensure that the sound quality and mikes during the musical are prepared, etc)
Visual Crew (ensure that all the visual systems and up and running, ensure that any visual aids needed during the musical is done, etc)

5. Set, props, costumes and make-up
Set Manager (oversees the design and construction of the set, props, costume and make-up for the whole musical)
Set Design (design the set and props needed for the musical)
Set Construction (construct the set and props needed for the musical)
Costume Design (design, make, buy or get the costumes that will be used during the musical)
Make-up Crew (make up the performers)

6. Publicity and Advertising
Publicity Manager (oversees the publicity and advertising of this whole musical, etc)
Design and Printing (assist the publicity manager, design the flyers, invitations cards, ensure the printing of the necessary items, etc)

16 December - Festival of Magic

A rabbit coming out from the hat... A disappearing coin... Magic and illusion and tricks. Come and enjoy this Sunday watching some of the coolest magic tricks and illusions. Guaranteed to keep you on your toes as you witness amazing tricks and illusions that will leave you baffled.

This is an outreach activity, something like Children Church but it will be called Festival of Magic. I hope to be able to bring in a magician to perform some tricks and stuff. It's to bring the gospel message across to children in a different and fun way, to share the good news through magic and to tell them that the greatest Magician is not David Copperfield or David Blaine, but Jesus Christ.

Worship Team - to lead the children in worship
Deco Team - to decorate and prepare the place so that it is child-friendly
Publicity Team - to promote and advertise the event

23 December - The Mystery Present

I want my Playstation! I want the latest X-box! I want that toy! Christmas is round the corner and what do you think Christmas is all about? Come and find out the true meaning of Christmas and find out what is the greatest gift that you can receive this Christmas! I'll give you a hint, it starts with J. No, it's not jelly or jackfruit. It's ........ Come and find out!

A Christmas Children Outreach with a theme that revolves around presents and gifts. The aim is again to bring the Christmas message across in a non-intimating way, to tell the kids to true meaning of Christmas. The best Christmas present to receive is not to get a Playstation or an X-box, but to receive Jesus Christ into your heart.

Deco Team - to decorate and prepare the place so that it is child-friendly

30 December - Children 'Level up' Ceremony

Level up! Yay! You have moved on to the next level! After one long year, you have level up and reach the next level. Come this Sunday and just have fun, enjoy the food, fun and games. Loads of fun stuff installed for you. Come and make this a smashing success!

This is basically to celebrate and thank the children for their past participation in Children Ministry, to celebrate that they are moving on to the next level (Primary one to Primary two, etc). We hope to make it a fun and informal event, with loads of food, fun and fellowship. Just a time to relax and have fun talking, playing and interacting with one another.

Deco Team - to decorate and prepare the place so that it is child-friendly

Important: As we plan and prepare for what's going to come up in the coming months, let's not forget why we are doing all these. It's not for our own glory that we are doing this, but for HIS GLORY! Let's constantly remind one another of the reason why we are doing this! May GOD be glorified!

We have the go-ahead for the Children Musical, so let's do this together yeah?

Up to you, we have about 12 weeks left, and we don't have a script, we don't have anything out yet, but I believe that if everyone is serious about this, we can actually make something happen.

The Children Musical will be on 2 December 2007 (Sunday) and we need all the help that we can get, we need all the support that we can get. We need you.

Hey guys and girls,

After the Children Church today, it's time to look ahead...

In the month of December, there are 5 Sundays (02/12, 09/12, 16/12, 23/12, 30/12) and we have the privilege to be in charge and run the show for all five Sundays. We really want for the kids to end on a high, we want to leave them with wonderful memories of Children Ministry as the year draws to an end.

I need all your suggestions and feedback, every comment, idea, suggestion is important, so please share them with me, by tagboard, face-to-face, sms, etc...

Labourers are also needed, if you have a burden to serve in any way, please let me know, so I can see how to fit you in.

2 December - Children Musical (What do you all think about this? Do we have the people who are committed and willing to invest time and effort into this musical? We are looking into making this Sunday an evangelistic outreach time. Any ideas?)
9 December - Superb Children Church (Time for the children to worship God and to recharge after the 2 December Evangelistic Outreach.)

What's going on before Children Church...

9am – We’ll meet to go for first service.

9.30am – We’ll leave after worship (after the songs, before the sermon)
This applies mainly for the worship team, which means pianist, guitarists, and singers. This is so that we are able to practise and prepare ourselves before the actual worship.

10am – Let’s spend the time praying and remembering that only God can bless Children Church. Let’s prepare our hearts as we serve and prepare.

10.30am – This is the time when the door to the Children Church room opens and it is the time for us to decorate and prepare the place. We have only a short time, so let's make full use of every single minute and be on time. All the people involved in decoration and moving the chairs, please be ready.

**Dear all, please uphold Children Church in prayer. The only way for this to be a success is for us to be seeking God on our knees.

1. Remove chairs
Remove all the chairs from their original positions, either move them out of the room or put them at the back of the room.
